His mother always told him she could forgive him no matter what, and Gerard was hoping she could stick to her claim just this once, but his father would not, let alone allow his mother to. Gerard knew how it was, before it even began, she would coo and coddle him, and then he would argue and destroy him. Gerard knew that he was doing what he believed was right, he was teaching him to “be a man” to toughen up, to survive. Gerard couldn’t do that, he’d messed his brain up enough already, the stress of even trying to look after himself would surly destroy his already fragile mind.

*Gerard's POV*
I arrived at school the next morning anxious to get to my biology class. It was my second period class so there was a bit of waiting involved. I tapped my foot and kept looking at the clock all through history. The bell rang and I was the first one out of the room. I entered the bio room looking around for Frank. He hadn't arrived yet. I sat down at our desk and waited eagerly. He came in with a bored expression on his face which somehow turned into a smile when he saw me. "Hi," he greeted me when sitting down. "Hey. Oh, here you go," I responded, grabbing the textbook from the floor. He took it and thanked me quietly.

"Alright, class. Today I'll be handing out textbooks. Funding hasn't been that great, so I'm going to need everyone to find a partner to share your book with." I looked around the room.
